Farm Show!

Well, what can I say other than, "Goodbye Farm Show of 2015, see you next year..." I would have to say that this year has been one of the best Farm Shows yet.  I did very well with my events.   First of all, the talent show, my friend Cami and I participated in by singing the song Mean Girls by Rachel Crow.  That song is about bullying and we thought that the message was very powerful.  We also looked up bullying statistics to put on cards and show the cards while we sang.  Some of the statistics were unbelievable!  Then we had some cards with happy thoughts such as, When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on, SMILE, Shine!, and one of my favorites, Life is a journey.... Live it.  We did a good job and had a lot of fun too!

The next thing that I wanted to share with you is the fleece to shawl competition.  My team was Pennsylvania Grown Potatoes and I served as the weaver for the first time in five years!  We did very well and we even finished with forty five minutes left on the clock!  Our team won third place and I congratulate all of the other teams.  All of the shawls were beautiful!  I also think that no matter what color the ribbon was, we all won because of the hard team work needed.  Thank you team for such an awesome day!  We managed to raise a lot of money that will go back to benefit our county 4-H Fiber Arts Program as well as being able to make a donation to a 4-H family in need.

Like I said in the last blog, I would be in the rabbit room for a lot of Farm Show.  I participated in two demonstrations for bunny to garment.  For one of the demonstrations, I spun angora fiber, along with my friend Maddy and Ashley, my sister, knit what we spun into baby booties from a rabbit that was just clipped a few seconds prior to spinning it.  In the other demonstration, Maddy, Veronika, and Bri were showing how to spin the fiber and I was demonstrating how to weave it into a scarf.  I finished the scarf that day and I am going to donate it to the PaSRBA auction in February.  I managed to clip one of my Giant Angora rabbits named Abby to demonstrate how I harvest the wool from my stock.  Abby loved getting the haircut because she really needed it.  Also in the rabbit room, I competed in rabbit showmanship and I am proud to announce that I won first place!  While we are on the topic of showmanship, I placed fourth in poultry showmanship.

And finally, driving my miniature horse named Journey was wonderful.  I am so proud of him for doing so well and I don't think that it could have gone any better.  It just proves that you need to plan your work and work your plan.  A wise man told me that one!

After this week, I am very glad to be back home, but I wish that the Farm Show wasn't over just yet.  I can't wait until next year when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Pa State Farm Show...

Here are a few pictures and I hope you enjoyed this blog.
